#igtqb collaboration

It started with this...
And this!
Then these two blocks were made....

then these beautiful EPP hexies...
and this fantastic Swoon block...
these colorful x-blocks were added...
throw in some colorful pluses...
more beautiful hexies...
three incredible star-plus blocks....

and some very colorful HST's...
  And you get this...

This is the most incredible collaborative project ever!  Back in March I joined with a group of ladies on Instagram to start a group of traveling quilts.  I made the first two blocks and sent them off, since then the have traveled all over the US and Canada to become this beautiful quilt top that I received back yesterday.   Over the last several months I had only seen small peaks at what they other ladies were adding and I was so excited when I picked up the box it arrived in at the post office last night. This beauty is big...measuring in at 84"x 68".  I had to bring in a ladder to get a good picture of the whole thing and it took up my whole living room floor!

Thank you Lindsey, Kristine, Dyan, Mary, Samantha, Katie, Nicole and Robin!

If you are on Instagram and you'd like to see more or check out the other finished quilts look up #igtqb.

This week's finishes

I've been wanting to make this notebook cover since the pattern and labels arrived a long time ago.  Not exactly sure what took me so long.  I started it when my 3 year old when down for her nap yesterday and was all but finished when I woke her up to get her brother from school.

I used more 2 1/2 inch Terrain squares for the cover and put my label on the inside rather than on the cover.  I figured 2012 would be over all too soon and this way I could remember when I made it but not feel like it was only for 2012.

My only addition to the pattern was a little velco strap keep the notebook shut and hold my pen.

I also finished up the embroidered hexies for my fall table topper.  The pattern is in the newest Quilts and More magazine.

I just finished this one this morning.  It's another Buttercup Bag from Made By Rae's great tutorial. You can see my first one here. She's got a great new dress pattern out that I really want to make for myself but way too many other things need to get done first.

The outside is made of a heavy weight twill that use to cover my dining room chairs.  The interior is a fat quarter from an older Valori Well's line called Sole.  I've had it in my stash for a couple of years.  It feels good to use it.  This is going to be my winter purse since winters here are very wet and slushy.

That time of year

We are settling back in to the school routine at my house.  My oldest started 1st grade about a week and a half ago. This is the picture I took of him one the first day...

(He had a hard time containing his excitement!)
He's pretty happy being back in school with his friends and he has the same teacher as last year which makes it the transition that much easier.

My little one and I settling back in to our routine.  I think we are beginning to transition out of regular naps but she is pretty good at entertaining herself for short periods of time so I can work on sewing project or chores.

(She decide the was the appropriate outfit for a day out fishing.)
I don't remember exactly when I started stitching these hexies but it was a while ago. Over the summer they were my take along project for swimming lessons.  I tried several different layouts before deciding which arrangement I liked best.

Trying to decide if I like my Terrain hexies orderly or ameba-ish.

Originally I was thinking that they would become a pillow but when I was trying to come up with the background fabric I decide they would look better as a mini quilt.  I just lined up the side of my foot against the previous row of stitching and echo quilted around the shape that the hexies made on the background.  It was a bit tedious with all of the angles but I'm in love with the 3D effect that it gives the quilt.

I also love the way the colorful hexies float in the white background. The hexies, backing and binding are made from Terrain by Kate Spain and the white background is something I had on hand.  It is a tone on tone print that has tiny white flowers on it.

This mini finished at 17" by 20". I used one of my personalized Sweetwater Label Crew labels on that back.
